Save water over the holiday season
Melburnians have recently been asked to get behind the Target 155 campaign, which is an attempt to reduce the city's average residential consumption to 155 litres per person per day, instead of the average 180 litres used over summer.
Of course, Melbourne is not alone in facing water restrictions this summer. So, why not get behind this initiative too. Here are a few simple things you can do to save water in the bathroom.
- By simply replacing your showerhead to a 3-star rated version you can save up to 50% of your household water consumption.
- If you don’t want to replace your tapware, you could add an aerator which can reduce the amount of water used by 50%.
- Cut your shower time from 7 to 4 minutes and you can save 42 litres every shower.
- Ensure your tap is turned off when you brush your teeth.
- Toilets use more water than any other bathroom products. If you replace your traditional single flush toilet to a dual flush toilet, you can save about 51 litres of water per person per day.
- Try to reuse water from your bath, shower or laundry to water your garden.
And get to know your local plumber. They can conduct an audit on your home water usage and advise on how to reduce your usage and ultimately save more water.
