Material Mix Up

Real Australian Bathrooms

After receiving a record number of entries in this year’s Your Bathroom. Your Life™ Competition, our national search for Australia’s best bathroom, the winning bathroom was found in Shepparton, Victoria.

Described by its owner as a “light-filled oasis”, the winning bathroom beautifully brings the outdoors in, with large windows overlooking a bathroom courtyard. The curved bath and basin work harmoniously together, posing almost as bathroom sculptures, rather than functioning bathroomware. The sleek black vanity sits cleverly in front of a floor-to-ceiling mirror, giving the effect that the bathroom has been draped in greenery. The luxurious Nikles Quatre Overhead Shower completes the look.

Inevitably, there were a number of interesting themes that emerged from this year’s competition - we noticed that homeowners are now experimenting with a mix-up of materials in the bathroom, from tiles, timber floors, textured walls and vanity finishes. We also saw that personality is being added to the bathroom, through accessories and the use of bold colours.

Wallpaper and patterned tiles made an appearance in many of the entered bathrooms, primarily in the form of a statement feature wall. Lighting was also a key theme with many of the bathrooms basking in natural light. And it was not just about natural light - we also saw a greater emphasis placed on artificial lighting, ensuring a light-filled oasis by day and a moodily-lit sanctuary by night.
