World leaders talk hot air at climate change conference
In December last year, World Leaders came together in Copenhagen to combat climate change. What tends to happen when you get a roomful of politicians together in the same room is that they create a lot of hot air. The Copenhagen conference was no exception. (Wasn’t this conference about reversing global warming?)
In spite of numerous lengthy discussions, no real progress has been made towards future agreements.
So what does this mean for the HVAC-R Industry and, more importantly, what does this mean for you?
This is a difficult question to answer in the absence of any firm resolutions emerging from the climate change summit. There were some discussions around HFCs, but it was difficult to obtain an agreement on any particular issue without a general framework.
The HFC issue will most likely be discussed in meetings and conferences on the Montreal Protocol later this year.
The next Climate Change conference is scheduled to take place in December 2010 in Mexico City.
Hopefully sun and tequila inspires a little less talk and a bit more action.
