Dutch innovations cut costs and carbon emissions

A Dutch installation company is helping to combat global warming whilst cutting energy costs through sustainable innovations.

Unica’s combination of existing methods of sustainable energy with innovative bio energy ideas has yielded impressive financial and eco-friendly results. There are many examples to choose from.

Take, for example, Unica’s fully automatic central heating concept. Based on waste timber, this highly efficient environmentally friendly solution not only means extremely low energy costs but also extremely low CO² emissions.

Another innovation is Unica’s ‘Lake Source Cooling’ (an integrated system that uses cold water from a nearby lake to cool office blocks in a Dutch industrial area) has also produced staggering results –

  • 88 per cent saving in power consumption
  • 80 per cent reduction in CO²  discharge

Then there is Unica’s long established method of storing cooling and heating underground. Underground storage systems are cooling and heating the banks, universities, exhibition buildings, office blocks, housing projects and hospitals across the Netherlands as a cheaper and greener energy alternative.

This system harnesses the wide variance in Europe’s seasonal temperature change to produce energy. In the summer the heat is stored underground in a water based layer and in the winter this heat is used for heating a building.

The results speak for themselves :

  • Up to 80 per cent energy saving
  • Major reductions in CO²  discharge

Energy solutions such as these are cutting consumer costs and cutting carbon emissions.

That’s great news for the consumer and even better news for the environment.
