3 Renovation Trends We’re Seeing from Consumers in 2024: Highlights from our Bathroom Report

Reading time: 5 mins

For over ten years, Reece has partnered with the best research companies in Australia to provide the go-to report for our industry and trade partners. Taking a deep dive into consumer attitudes and shifting trends, it provides real insight into the decisions Australians are making when it comes to building and renovating their bathroom.

Here are our top three takeaways from our 2024 report we think will help support you in understanding the Aussie consumer and what kinds of behaviours and expectations are guiding them during their renovation journey.

1. Renovators are more informed and empowered than ever before, and they are looking for teams of trades to collaborate with them.

Our most engaged consumers are excited about the renovation process. They want to help set the vision, trust in professionals and are looking for experts to guide them in their journey. They look to retailers, consultants and tradespeople for ideas, advice and recommendations throughout the project as a trusted source of information. They want to be able to communicate their needs as seamlessly as possible.

2. In a world where we have so many options available, the want for customisation continues to grow with consumers.

Consumers' desire to help set the vision for their bathroom space continues to grow, with the importance of customisation rising another 6% year on year.

But what does customisation mean?

For the majority, customisation means helping select the aesthetic elements of their bathroom – such as tiles, colours and finishes and furniture. There is a strong appetite for products that deliver on form, function and value with 80% of respondents noting customisable tapware was important to them and 38% suggesting they’d like to update their bathroom every 3-5 years. In-wall bodies for tapware, along with many other products in the pipeline, let the build continue whilst allowing finish and shape choices to happen later.

3. Do it once, do it right: 60% of Aussies are renovating for the future with assisted living inclusions.

Over 60% of individuals are taking a long term view of their renovation, future-proofing their bathroom early to ensure it meets their needs as they grow older. The broad range of beautiful and functional products available in this space means it's possible to achieve functional needs without compromising on aesthetics.

“I want it to be flexible and allow me to stay in my own home longer as I grow older.” – Survey respondent.

Collections like the Mizu assisted living range offers consumers a sleek design with a selection of Mizu’s signature finishes to complement their other bathroom fixtures.
