Now more than ever, we’re turning to the bathroom for much needed relaxation, rejuvenation and reinvigoration, and for many of us, that means soaking in a warm, indulgent bath.
But what is it about baths that is so special and which bath is the right one for you to enjoy the ultimate act of self-care?
Don’t take it from us; to celebrate International Bath Day this year, we asked some of our partners what they love most about having a bath, and their all-time favourite bath designs.
Founder of fashion and lifestyle blog What Would Karl Do and mum of 3, Jess Dempsey plans to use the bath in her new bathroom as a place to escape and unwind.
“My favourite thing about a bath is actually having time to myself. I am very excited to move… all I can do is imagine how relaxing it will be in my beautiful bath, alone, with some candles, and having some me time.”
Her favourite bath:
“My Kado Lux Petite Freestanding Bath. What I love about it is the sleek, beautiful design, and it’s really deep, so it just ticks all my boxes for what I want in a luxury bath.”
Tess and Luke, winners of The Block 2019 also love the indulgent feeling of taking a bath, with Luke saying: “There is nothing more relaxing than jumping into a nice, warm bath, especially on a cold winter’s night.”
Tess adds: “My favourite thing about a bath is it’s your time to relax and unwind.”
Their favourite bath:
“The Kado Neue Freestanding Bath. We used it in our Master Ensuite last year on The Block. It was really the focal point of the room and we absolutely love it.”
Renovation powerhouse Three Birds Renovations champion the bath as a practical place for the whole family to stay clean and healthy.
“Our favourite thing about having a bath is that it’s so much more than just a practical way of getting clean. Done right (kids in bed!), it can be the ultimate indulgent form of relaxation.
“We love styling our bathrooms with a stool beside the bath so that there’s a handy spot for a gorgeous candle, a glass of wine and a laptop to catch up on Netflix.”
Their favourite bath:
“At the moment it’d have to be the Posh Domaine Inset Bath that we recently used in House 11 because it was a total lifesaver for us! It’s a small but deep bath, the perfect space-saving option when a bath is a non-negotiable.”
Former The Block contestants El’ise and Matt love their bath for its practicality, too, but also as a great way to spend time with the family.
“We utilise our bath every single night for our children. It’s cost effective and a time saver to be able to chuck them all in the bath together. It definitely calms their mood and they get to relax and unwind and talk about their day together, and with us.”
Their favourite bath:
“The Kado Lussi Freestanding Bath. We used it twice on The Block and that’s because of the soft curves, it’s nice and deep and it’s just a really beautiful looking bath. And it’s easy to clean.”
As the southern Australian states feel the pinch of winter more than ever during this time of the year, more people are turning to baths to keep toes toasty. Mitch and Mark from The Block 2019 say it perfectly:
“Now that we’re going into winter, nothing is more relaxing and warming than having a beautiful, hot bath to relax aching, tired muscles and feel rejuvenated.”
Their favourite bath:
“All time favourite would be the LAUFEN Palomba Freestanding Bath we picked to put in the Ensuite on The Block. That thing was deep, it was slopey, it was insane, and also a work of art. Favourite ever.”
Andy and Deb, Blockheads from the latest season, seek convenience and comfort from their bathtime experiences.
“Pretty much sitting down and getting cleaned rather than standing up and having a shower.” – Andy
“Closing the door, locking it, putting on a candle, some bubble bath, relaxing and waiting for someone to knock on the door and say: what are you doing in there?” – Deb
Their favourite bath:
“The Kado Lussi Freestanding Bath. We loved it so much that we had it in two of our bathrooms on The Block. It’s a beautiful matte white, very organic shape, natural sort of raw look which we love, and it really complemented everything else in our bathroom so well.”
Finally, Alisa and Lysandra from Alisa & Lysandra Interiors and Winners of The Block: Sky High in 2013 share what they love about taking a bath:
“My favourite part about having a bath would have to be first, kids in bed. Then, turn the lights out, light my candles, put the salt in the bath and sit back, relax with a glass of wine in hand and listen to my favourite business podcasts.” - Alisa
Their favourite bath:
“We love using the Kado Lussi Freestanding Bath. We used it in our Albert Park project, we’ve used it on The Block. It’s definitely our go-to bath.”
