How We're Making the Lead-Free Transition a Breeze For Our Customers: Everything You Need to Know Before May 2026.

What’s coming?

From 1 May 2026, brass plumbing products containing more than 0.25% lead will no longer be authorised for installation in a plumbing system that comes into contact with drinking water.

Australia is fortunate to have inherited a world leading product standards framework from those that have shaped the industry over the last 50 years. The transition to lead-free is a continued evolution of this framework and enhances our offerings to both customers and the wider community.

Our Transition Plan

Whilst Australia and New Zealand have had world-leading regulations for many years, with some of the lowest allowed levels of lead globally, it is broadly agreed that reducing the lead content of plumbing products is the right thing to do.

We’ve already started transitioning our products ahead of the cut-off date, with several lead-free ranges now available in branch.

Identifying Lead-Free Products

To make things easier for you, any time a supplier tells us that a product is lead free, we will add "LF"  into the product description on your orders.

We're making maX even simpler for you. During points in the transition, some branches may carry either the lead or lead-free versions in our network. To make it easy we'll display combined stock levels for both versions, and supply you with the stock on hand.

Physical product will be marked with an updated WaterMark logo featuring “Lead Free” or the abbreviation “LF.”

These products will also be listed on the manufacturer’s WaterMark Schedule of Products and flagged as “lead-free”.

What you need to do

Nothing.

The products you’ve been using now are fully compliant and safe and you can continue to install these until 1 May 2026. We’re managing the transition well in advance of the cut-off date to ensure we are supporting you every step of the way.
