For those lucky enough to have experienced European summer, you’ll know there’s nothing quite like luxuriating in an afternoon bath with the rustling of olive trees outside your window and the Mediterranean sea glittering in the background. Not quite your reality? Neither. So for the rest of us, we’ll settle for bringing the Modern-Mediterranean look home with us, through – you guessed it – the ‘Moditerranean’ design.

What is ‘Moditerranean’, exactly?

Moditerranean is all about earthy tones and textures with hidden technology and features. Think terracotta, olive, and sand colours, with soft corners and round shapes. It blends the rustic, textural Mediterranean elements with the clean lines and pared-back palette of modern flair.

“Moditerranean embraces the slightly rustic elements of classic Mediterranean looks of aged timber, plaster, rustic stone, textural linens, and handmade tiles and pairs them with much more contemporary clean lines and neutral colour palettes,” House of Rohl Stylist, Fiona Gould recently Homes to Love.

How can I incorporate it into my home?

If you are considering a renovation or new build, the Moditerrenean trend is a great direction to consider in your product and design selection. It was a trend we saw over and again on The Block 2024, and was done particularly well by contestant couple Courtney & Grant from House #2.

The couple absolutely loved the Mediterrenean influence on their bathroom designs, inspired perhaps by their own wedding plans.

“We originally planned to have a huge wedding in Malta and then COVID hit and that got scrapped,” Grant said.

Marble, warm wooden finishes, and textural tiles invite elements of the natural world into the built environment. The overall result, especially for Courtney & Grant’s work, is a warm and inviting bathroom space that avoids feeling clinical.

What Reece products suit the Moditerranean trend?
