The Block: Upstairs Bathroom Recap – Alisa & Lysandra

Week Five signalled the first double room renovation for this season’s Blockheads and their first week tackling the second floor component of their unique character homes.

Moving upstairs and into the new part of the build, contestants were allowed more freedom with their design brief and could choose whether or not to stick to the design principles of their home’s assigned decade or not.

Despite this being the longest week in Block history, with an emotionally charged COVID-19 shutdown interrupting the build, the end result is five stunning family friendly designs and five resilient and persistent teams.

Daniel & Jade

Daniel & Jade’s upstairs bathroom is a more playful interpretation of their previous room design. The mint green basins in the guest bathroom, teamed with the dramatic black starry night sky wallpaper in bedroom 3, fit the brief for an uber-cool teenage retreat on the second floor.

There are some great functional inclusions with the rimless, easy clean Axa Uno toilet being the perfect choice for an easy clean and minimalistic look. The ample storage in this bathroom with the Kado Lux all drawer vanity and double basin with four door Posh Domaine Plus shaving cabinet creates a highly serviceable family bathroom we feel will really appeal to buyers.

Harry & Tash

Each of Harry & Tash’s bathrooms has a unique colour scheme and their third is another dramatic shift from their downstairs ensuites. This week the family pair have presented their most neutral colour palette so far.

They have warmed up a grey and white scheme with the inclusion of a Posh Domaine Plus wall hung twin vanity. We really love the nib wall in the shower for its functionality in a family bathroom that will need to cater to multiple users, all needing space and storage for their products.

Jimmy & Tam

Jimmy & Tam have continued with their colourful and adventurous 50s design journey, producing yet another vibrant space. The peach colour on the walls adds a sorbet pop to this funky and family friendly bathroom, with the terrazzo tile is the major design feature in this room and a continued theme throughout their home.

The Kado Lussi thin edge bath is the essential inclusion for this bathroom, as advised by the judges last week when they chose not to include a bath in either of their downstairs bathrooms. It is the only bath to be installed in the house so far and is rightly a central feature of the room.

Luke & Jasmin

Delivering another generously sized bathroom with all the essential inclusions to accommodate the entire family, Luke & Jasmin’s third bathroom is the perfect fusion of form and function. It’s no surprise that they won their second bathroom week in a row.

Sticking with their winning formula from last week, their bright white bathroom and Mizu Drift tapware in brushed golddelivers continuity and glamour. Also making a repeat appearance is the arched Kado Neue mirror shaving cabinetand the striking Australian-made oak ISSY Halo III vanity. We hope this couple will continue their nod to the 1910s throughout the build, as the elegance of mixing and old and new is really working for them so far.

Sarah & George

Sarah & George have continued with Posh Canterbury matte black tapware in their third bathroom, which is a continuation of their now signature style. This monochrome and elegant space is the most modern interpretation of their brief to date, but the inclusion of the Kado Neue freestanding bath brings the perfect neoclassical touch for this era bathroom.

We loved this space and feel that the consistency this couple has delivered in the last few bathrooms will see them being contenders come auction day.

It was a rollercoaster of emotions watching The Block this week and seeing the contestants deliver such successful rooms was a testament to their spirit and determination. The shift towards modern design, particularly in the bedrooms, is really giving us an insight as to who they feel their target buyers are.
