Prime Prime Refrigerant
R22 is a single-component HCFC refrigerant (Chlorodifluoromethane) with low ozone depletion potential. It has long been used in a variety of air conditioning and refrigeration applications in a variety of markets, including appliance, construction, food processing, and supermarkets. It is non-toxic and non-flammable meeting the highest A1/A1 classification.
HCFC's are commonly accepted as having an overall detrimental effect on the environment through both their ozone depletion potential and global warming potential. Exceeding the requirements of the Montreal Protocol, a phase out was implemented in Australia under the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989. From 2018 the import of HCFCs was banned in Australia except for only a minor quantity.
HFC alternatives to R22 include R427A, R448A and R422D
